A Retreat Carved from the Landscape

The Mountain Lodge is a design proposal that embraces dramatic topography, merging architecture with the terrain to create a retreat that feels like an organic extension of the hills. It represents a study in contextual and climate-responsive design, utilizing a blend of rustic materials and modern transparency to foster a grounded yet airy atmosphere.

The structure is defined by a striking contrast between its two natures: a grounded mountain façade featuring stone masonry that preserves site features like mature trees, and a transparent valley façade defined by a three-story glass curtain wall that opens to panoramic views of Simly Dam.

PROJECT CONCEPT

The design utilizes vertical layering and strategic orientation to maximize the immersive landscape experience.

  • A layered layout that transitions from an enclosed, intimate reception on the ground floor to high-volume guest suites above.
  • Private suites angled at 45 degrees to frame two distinct vistas—the mountain range beyond and the landscaped core toward Simly Dam.
  • A multi-level social heart on the valley-facing side, featuring stacked lounges and an open rooftop terrace.
  • The structure subtly bends around existing mature trees on-site, maintaining the natural character of the entrance.
  • Integration of local stone masonry and timber accents for solidity at the entrance, contrasted with a glass skin for valley views.
  • Guest wings feature dramatic sloped roofs that create high-volume, expansive interior spaces.

Innovative architecture blending functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability to create timeless spaces.
