A Climate-Conscious Academic Proposal

This design proposal for Jamal Abro II GBHS redefines educational spaces in Interior Sindh through climate-conscious architecture. The Ground + 1 structure utilizes vernacular principles and a new masterplan to replace a deteriorated building, allowing for future vertical and horizontal expansion.

Open courtyards, shaded verandahs, and 16-inch cavity walls ensure natural ventilation and thermal comfort during peak summer conditions. The design balances durability with sustainability, providing a high-performance learning environment tailored to the local climate.

The architecture responds to harsh solar exposure through angled window boxes and concrete jaali screens that filter diffused light. This passive strategy maintains cool interiors and reduces glare, ensuring comfortable classrooms without a reliance on mechanical cooling.

PROJECT CONCEPT

The proposal focuses on thermal efficiency and long-term institutional growth through a “Neo-Colonial and Vernacular Revival” architectural language.

  • 16-inch cavity walls and concrete jaali screens filter daylight while enabling constant cross-ventilation.
  • A Masterplan designed for immediate usability with structural provisions for future vertical enrollment growth.
  • Two facade options featuring either classic arches or recessed window boxes to mitigate direct solar heat gain.

Innovative architecture blending functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability to create timeless spaces.
